With smartphones featuring 3G connectivity and front facing cameras, video calling is on a rise. It has taken a new meaning with new features like simultaneous screen sharing, group video calls, Video calling in HD, remote application control, etc.

1. Facetime
Facetime is Apple‘s propriety appfor video calling. It’s available across their latest product range – IPhone 4, IPodTouch 4G, IPad2, MACs. It allows video calling only to another Apple device, using the assigned e-mail addresses.
The current version only supports calling through Wi-fi, and works in landscape and potrait modes.

2. Fring
Fring is more powerful than Facetime, supports quite a few platforms. Fring allows you to make two way calls, and group calls. It works on both 3G and Wi-Fi. You need to register to use Fring, after which it scans you contacts, and then you can chat, or make voice or video calls, with just one touch.
Fring is available for iOS, Android and Symbian mobile platforms.

3. Skype
You would have surely heard about Skype before. It is probably one of the most popular video calling application.
Skype is available across PCs and mobiles. It is supported by Windows, Linux, MAC, iOS and Symbian platforms. It offers voice calls and one-to-one video calls.
You have to register the first time with your e-mail address, and you need to enter the contacts manually.

4. Tango
Tango is another video calling app, it is supported by iOS and Android devices. You need to register using your e-mail ID to use Tango, after which it scans your device to get a list of contacts.

5. VSee
Vsee is a free application, for personal and non-commercial purpose. It is available only for Windows. You need to register to use Vsee to get yourself a VSee user-name. Contacts are added manually with the corresponding Vsee IDs. You can see your video feed on your desktop when the application launches.
