Liberate Your Mind And Body From Addiction With Cocaine Detox

Posted by thizzfacedisco on February 16, 2012

When a person is addicted to the use of cocaine, it has a destructive effect on their body, mind, and emotional health. Rapid deterioration of quality of life will result if this problem is not brought to a stop. Addiction can result in many losses to an individual; losses of a healthy body and mind, money, and interpersonal relationships. If left alone the loss of life is often the final result. This habit must be dealt with aggressively in order to end it. This starts by eradicating the substance from the addict’s body in a strict regime of cocaine medical detoxification. Therapy is the next step after this is in most rehab facilities.

Cocaine

Beginning treatment for drug addiction at a rehab center is a positive step in the right direction. The start of any withdrawal program involves as one would expect, no contact with the abused substance, as well as purifying the body by removing all built-up chemicals in the body that are present as a result of the habit. This process of cleansing or detoxification does not bring about nice feelings at first, but it is a crucial stage that must be endured if the problem is to be beaten.

Withdrawal

No form of withdrawal is a pleasant experience, with cocaine this is especially so. This drug is a very potent and harmful substance with a highly addictive nature to it, that is why the withdrawal from it can be particularly challenging. Stopping the use of cocaine brings on what is termed a “crash”. The “crash” is responsible for causing the following symptoms, physically; drug cravings, nausea and vomiting, aches, tremors, fever, exhaustion, itchiness or feeling like bugs are crawling on the skin. Mentally, there may be irritability, mood swings, paranoia and confused behavior as observed in schizophrenics.

Symptoms

These unpleasant symptoms will usually develop during the first few days of not taking the drug. They can continue for weeks, often becoming more intense and new symptoms may develop as well during this time. Sometimes these feelings will continue for several months. The longer a person has been addicted to the substance, the more severe and longer the detoxification experience will be. The urge to return to using the substance is often still felt after the symptoms have abated, and may last for years in some cases.

Medications

Medications are often prescribed to help alleviate the psychological problems that can develop during detoxification. Usually these drugs are one of the following; antidepressants, beta-blockers, sedatives, or benzodiazepines. All of these are given to treat mood disorders and encourage relaxation of the central nervous system.

Holistic Approach

In some instances, a patient may opt for a holistic treatment plan instead of medications. This is also an effective way to achieve eventual stability during the detox process. Usually it consists of nutritional counseling, taking vitamins, exercise regimes, and using a sauna. It must be supplemented with therapy afterwards though, that appropriately focuses on the psychological part of the problem.

Addiction

After the body stops craving the drug, the mind may still experience urges to use it. Therapy is designed to address this aspect of the addiction. Once a patient no longer suffers from withdrawal symptoms, they usually begin to partake in either group or individual sessions. The cocaine treatment programs mostly incorporate both motivational and cognitive behavior therapies.
